LIVE PERFORMANCE
Ouroboros, Milton Court Concert Hall 05/07/2022 [21min 36sec]
In Ancient Egyptian, and later, Greek mythology, Ouroboros is the symbol of a serpent eating its own tail. Endless cycles of life and death exist in simultaneous formation and dissolution.
Inspired by the free jazz tradition, the fully improvised performances of Ouroboros expand the language of the quartet with modular synthesizer and extended instrumental techniques.
For the inaugural performance, I merged a keyboard and cymbal into a collaborative instrument using a vocoder. The instrument was played by me and the keyboardist at the same time, transversing the boundaries of traditional instrumentation and speculating on future forms of creative collaboration [see below: “Video” 04:53-07:20].
