Podcast Jingle
International Women’s Initiative Podcast Theme. [MP3, 36sec]
This project involved the production of audio materials for an upcoming podcast series produced by the International Women’s Initiative. The brief was to produce a jingle that incites discussion and reflects the urgency of the topics addressed by the Initiative. The delivery format was a series of five different thematic jingles ranging from 7-95 seconds, as well as two 15 second loops to act as underscore.
Taking inspiration from the sounds of news broadcast jingles, I based the tracks around a stuttering synthesized chord that signifies discussion. I wanted to convey a sense of urgency with syncopated percussive elements and a low sub bass sequence. Intermittent cello recordings from a string session in a large reverb served to express the magnitude of the topics discussed. To locate the jingles in a distinctly ‘women’s’ space, I interweaved the chordal elements of the soundscape with stretched recordings of a female singer.
The IWI: International Women’s Initiative (IWI) was established as an independent nonprofit in 2012 to carry out research, implement program development, as well as publish and collect resources on the human rights of women globally. With the assistance of global grassroots organizations IWI has since evolved into a feminist institute dedicated to the eradication of human rights abuses targeted at women.
