All’s Fair In Vanity

Description:

Film Score

All’s Fair In Vanity / UK (Director: Antonia Hansen. Producer: Penny Sherlock.) [08min 30sec]

All’s Fair in Vanity explores the manifestations of vanity in two contexts: the Regency era and 2020. The characters are increasingly drawn away from the present by vanity into a world of self-admiration.

The score references the two social (and musical) eras in which the film is set. I quoted Donizetti’s String Quartet no. 1 in E-flat Major to evoke a classical Romanticism, while often integrating electronic elements into the score. The film culminates in a three-minute party sequence, for which I composed a club track integrating synthesizers with the string quartet.

The string quartet was recorded at GSMD.
