The Rose Lawrence Horner’s Award

Leonard Maassen has received the Guildhall School of Music & Drama Dissertation prize The Rose Lawrence Horner’s Award for the installation project ‘we change’. The installation was realised in 2022 as part of artistic research focusing on environmental change in creative practice.

The awarding body wrote: “Leonard Maassen […] produced a really interesting piece of work discussing his artistic practice and how music can both locate listeners within their environment and change their relationship to it. He sets out a persuasive argument, backed up by excellent background research and in-depth philosophical reflections, and with an admirable level of self-criticality about his artistic work itself and his writing about it. His engagement with such an important contemporary issue is exciting, and I hope inspirational to his audiences.”

The dissertation entitled Artistic Research and Environmental Change: Reflections on the Production of a Collaborative Audio-visual Installation was selected for the award in April 2023.
